About Me
I grew up in a satellite town outside of Melbourne, Australia and this gave me a solid upbringing somewhere between rural and urban. Some lucky early access to a noisy monochrome 286 PC set me off on a more creative path where I found no end of things to learn and discover.
I graduated with an Industrial Design degree in 2000 and since then I have worked in all manner of creative fields in Melbourne, Sydney and more recently New York.
I spent my 20s taking on some large scale creative projects, varying wildly from designing medical components, to a few years of traditional shoemaking and some early attempts at animation. In my 30s I worked in fashion, UX and 3D Printing. In my 40s I made music videos, film content and explored VR, 3D scanning and AI in whatever way I could.
I have developed a broad range of skills over based on the combination of technical application, critical thinking and problem solving. I love being ‘on the tools’ and down in the details, but would always start with a high level relevant and well researched strategy deck.
I am now just as comfortable storyboarding and directing a short film as I am creating the perfect pair of high heeled shoes, a future-state vision for a large project or detailing the information architecture of a smartphone app.
My career has indeed taken some wild and unexpected twists and turns. I’ve loved every new industry I got to engage with, the broad range of people I have been able to learn from, work with and help out.
If you have a challenge to throw my way, get in touch to see if I can help out.
Primary Skillset
Creative Direction
I am comfortable leading a team of creatives, large or small. Client-facing experience delivering pitches, identifying project milestones and synthesizing project stakeholders’ wants and needs into an actionable creative plan.
I happily stay across current trends, with a personal preference for the worlds of Fashion and Music.
Art Direction
When the brief calls for something familiar, nostalgic or brand specific I love nothing more than opening up my stack of magazines or scrolling Savee for an hour to build a jawdropping set of references from all corners of the creative world. Music, Art, Design and Pop Culture are where I pull content from to show my ideas (or your ideas) in their best light.
AI Content
As controversial as it is, I also feel like AI driven Content Creation is something exciting and new, that can exist outside of traditional creative work. Using tools like MidJourney, I have been able to conceptualize and visualize entire creative treatments with an educated prompt of “this topic, in this art style, from this era”.
I have been able to deliver more impact in one day than a week of traditionally populated look-and-feel pages ever could. I must add though that this new approach requires a solid set of existing reference points and a grasp on modern vocabulary to harness these tools and not just make visual noise. To be used with caution perhaps? But a great option when the budget or timeline is tight or the visual requirements are a stretch.
Film & Storytelling
I love to bring relevant, memorable and marketable stories to the projects I work on. I have led and participated in a variety of film projects over the years, from 30 sec commercials to short films and award winning music videos.
3D Visualization
I have notched up 20+ years of Product, Fashion and Architectural Visualization experience using 3ds Max, Vray, Corona, Blender, Unreal Engine, CLO and many other 3D software packages.
Motion Graphics
Proficient with all corners of the Adobe Creative Suite, with a good 10+ years of experience using After Effects.
HCD, UX and UI
Confident in all aspects of a Human Centered Design process. Working in what could be broadly defined as User Experience, Service Design, Strategy, Forecasting and Interaction Design, primarily using Figma for pixel perfect UI deliverables.
Product Design
Bachelor of Design (Industrial Design) and experience designing consumer products, packaging, fashion, shoes and accessories.
