Dead & Buried

2006 to 2013

If there’s one thing I’ll be thankful for in my creative life, it is the opportunity to start, enjoy and wrap up the absolute cornucopia of creativity that was Dead & Buried.

Beginning as a blog in 2006 where Danielle Maugeri and I shared the ups and downs of our creative lives (and some recipes along the way) it became the name of our shared business, 2 bigger-than-we-needed commercial spaces for creatives and ultimately a mindset where we felt ok to do silly things that made us no money but a lot of friends - including Madeline Vaiden who made the trip as in intern from the USA, only to not really learn much from me and still go on to be much more skillful than I’ll ever be at a sewing machine.

Our first space housed mostly digital designers, graphic designers and photographers but evolved to have a “messy side” where shoemakers, tailors and jewellers worked. We took the idea one step further with our second space by creating task-specific workshop and retail spaces so we could work and sell from the same room. Some of Melbourne’s best designers passed through our doors, and I will cherish the memories of that crazy space forever.
