Hack the Collection

June 2014

I was honored to be invited to participate as an Artist in Residence at Sydney’s Powerhouse Museum in 2015. They ran a series of events that explored how 3D printing could be used to augment existing artworks, offering a selection of designers, artists jewelers and technicians access to their permanent collection. We were challenged to select an item to be 3D scanned and then reinterpret that item in our own style, using 3D printing as the final output.

I started from a handmade shoe from 1870, and evolved it into an articulated 3D printed shoe which aimed to capture an equivalent level of glamour and showiness for the modern market. Being able to work with the team there and meet the general public as they asked about our processes was an unforgettable experience.
